Description
HPE’s Apollo 4200 rack server is designed for object storage, Hadoop, content delivery, and other data intensive workloads. With its densely packed 2U form factor, this server is an ideal fit for data centers where space, cooling, and power consumption are primary factors in long-term cost. It also supports easy scale out by adding additional chassis to the rack.
Performance
Intel’s C610 chipset supports a maximum of two CPUs, either the Xeon E5-2600 v3 or E5-2600 v4 processor. Using v3 processors, the 4200 will support a maximum of 18 cores and processing speeds of up to 2133MHz. Using Intel’s E5-2600 v4 processors, the system will support memory speeds of up to 2400MHz, and 22 cores of processing power. Power is provided by one or two PSUs, either 800W or 1400W hot plug power supplies.
Memory
DDR4 memory with advanced memory protection is supported on this system and includes ECC and online spare. Online spare will switch to a spare memory rank if memory module degradation is detected. With a single processor installed, only eight memory slots are active. Up to 16 memory slots are active in a two processor configuration. The 4200 will support up to 1TB using 64GB memory modules in all 16 memory slots. Either registered (RDIMM) or load reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules can be installed but they cannot be mixed. Processing speed is dependent on both the processor, selected memory, and configuration.
Storage
The system can support up to 24 LFF drives in two separate drive cages, with 12 drives mounted in front, and an additional 12 drives accessible by pressing the latches on the ears of the chassis to expose the drive cage immediately behind. The SFF chassis configuration supports up to 48 SFF drives in two drive cages, 24 up front and 24 behind the pullout drive cage. Optional rear mounted drive cages support up to 4 LFF drives for a maximum of 28 LFF drives, and up to 168TB of storage using 6TB drives. The SFF chassis also features an optional rear-mounted drive cage assembly that will support a maximum of eight additional SFF drives. Another rear mounted SFF drive cage supports only two HDs and two low-profile PCIe slots. Storage controllers include an HPE Smart Array P840ar plus an integrated Dynamic Smart Array B140i. Optional Flexible Smart Array or Smart HBA controllers are supported. Both SAS and SATA HDDs and SSDs are supported. A single Micro SD card slot is standard.
Expansion
With a two processor configuration, and the addition of an optional riser kit, the system will support up to seven PCIe 3.0 slots. With a single processor only two PCIe slots are available but the addition of an optional riser will bump that number to three slots with the riser occupying slot 2 making slots three and four available. A dedicated slot is used to support a Flexible Smart Array or Dynamic Smart Array storage controller. Options for expansion cards include NICs, external storage controllers, and optional riser cages as discussed in the storage section.
Management
HPE’s Integrated Lights Out 4.0 management module gives Administrators options for deploying, provisioning, and managing the server both locally and remotely. An optional dedicated iLO management port provides dedicated 1Gb access. HPE Insight Control helps optimize IT infrastructure. Several other management features are available to support specific workloads.
Summary
The Apollo 4200 is a scale out server that offers twice the density of the nearest competitor and is designed to address a number of mission critical applications.
