Description
The HPE ProLiant BL465c Gen7 server blade is designed for the Blade System c7000 or c3000 enclosures which provide, power, cooling, networking, and centralized management. This platform is an excellent choice for data centers with its small footprint and 10Gb converged network adapter to help reduce infrastructure cost and overall power consumption. HPE’s integrated management engine, iLO 3.0, has also been updated and is nearly 8x faster than iLO 2.0.
Performance
You can install a maximum of two AMD Opteron 6100 or 6200 series processors with 8, 12, or 16 cores each. There are also a few low power Opteron CPUs for reduced power consumption. 6200 series Opteron processors provide more L2 and L3 cache compared to the 6100 series processors.
Storage
A SmartArray P410i RAID controller features 1GB flash-backed write cache (FBWC) and supports RAID configurations of 0 and 1. Although, with only two internal small form factor (SFF) drives supported on the HPE BL465c Gen7 server blade the P410i controller is more than up to the task. The P410i RAID controller is also required if you will be using hot swap HDs. An internal SD-HC card slot supports a hypervisor.
Memory
Each processor supports eight memory modules for 16 total active slots in a two processor configuration. The HPE BL465c Gen7 supports a maximum memory capacity of 512GB using 32GB DDR3 Registered (RDIMM) memory modules operating at 1066MHz. Quad rank memory modules will deliver faster speeds at 1333MHz or 1600MHz but with reduced capacity at 256GB. Unbuffered (UDIMM) memory modules are also supported and yield the least capacity at 64GB using all 16 memory slots with two processors.
Expansion
There are two I/O expansion mezzanine slots on the system to support a maximum of two mezzanine cards. Supported cards include a dual port flex fabric adapter, dual port fibre channel for SAN connectivity, support for additional network ports, infinBand, accelerators, and a SAS mezzanine option for direct attached and shared SAS storage. The HPE BL465c Gen7 also features an integrated dual port FlexFabric 10GB Converged Network Adapter.
Management
The HPE BL465c Gen7 server blade requires the latest version of the Onboard Administrator firmware and also features HPE’s integrated Lights Out 3.0 module for setup, health monitoring, power and thermal controls, and remote administration.
Summary
With integrated network connections the HPE ProLiant BL465c Gen7 server blade offers a simplified, lower cost approach to server integration and deployment. With two AMD Opteron processors, it delivers impressive performance and a fairly large memory footprint at 512GB in a half-width server blade. HPE’s integrated management tools also help to sweeten the deal providing powerful management tools to help you get the most out of your system.
