Description
The HPE ProLiant BL465c Gen8 server blade is designed for deployment with the BladeSystem c7000 or c3000 enclosures which offer shared power, cooling, networking, and management. The c7000 enclosure will hold up to 16 BL465c servers vertically compared to room for just eight full-width, half-height blade servers on the c3000 enclosure. Both enclosures are backwards and forwards compatible to support several generations of blade servers.

Performance
There are two different AMD chipset options supporting one or two of AMD’s Opteron 6300 Series processors with up to 16 cores each. Users can start out with just a single processor and scale to support two processors as business needs change.
Memory
Both registered (RDIMM) and Load Reduced (LRDIMM) DDR3 modules are supported on this platform. With dual processors and all slots loaded with 16 x 16GB RDIMM modules, the system will support up to 256GB of memory operating at speeds of up to 1600MHz. Using LRDIMM modules you get twice that memory capacity at 512GB running at up to 1333MHz.
Storage
Two small form factor (SFF) hot plug drive bays are supported up front on the HPE BL465c Gen8 server blade. An HPE Smart Array P220i controller offers 512MB Flash Backed Write Cache (FBWC) and supports limited RAID of 0 and 1. Other Smart Array controllers offer enhanced performance and more RAID options.
Expansion
There are two PCIe 2.0 expansion slots on the server blade and can support both dual and quad-port mezzanine cards with ports automatically routed to the interconnect modules supported on the BladeSystem enclosure. Card options include NICs, Fibre Channel HBA, Smart Array SAS controllers for external storage support, and QDR and FDR InfiniBand connections for low latency and high bandwidth server interconnectivity. A maximum of two optional Fibre Channel HBAs can be installed on this system.
Management
Integrated Lights Out 4.0 On System Management Chipset helps secure the system and provides remote server management. An Advance license provides a full range of administrative functions that help with server setup, health monitoring, and power and thermal controls. The HPE iLO functions right out of the box. It can be accessed using a standard web browser and works with other HPE management systems including Insight Manager, and Insight Control. HPE OneView combines servers, storage, and networking into a single user interface to help manage converged infrastructures more efficiently.
Summary
The HPE ProLiant BL465c Gen8 server blade is a very capable server for a variety of standard business applications, and also offers enterprise-class reliability for the data center. With AMD Opteron processors, this system delivers powerful performance at a less expensive price point than a similar system using Intel’s chipset and Xeon processors.
