The HPE ProLiant BL490c Gen6 is ideal for hosting virtual machines with support from dual processors and up to 18 DDR3 memory modules. It also features embedded dual port 10GbE. The c3000 and c7000 BladeSystem enclosures are forwards and backwards compatible to support G1 through Gen9 server blades. The c3000 enclosure will support up to eight ProLiant BL490c G6 server blades while the c7000 enclosure will support up to 16. Both c-series enclosures also support a mix of half and full-width blade servers.
Up to two Intel Xeon 5600 or 5500 series processors are supported on Intel’s 5500 chipset. Turbo boost and Intel’s Hyper-Threading technology is supported.
Administrators can choose from either registered (RDIMM) or unbuffered (UDIMM) DDR3 memory modules supporting transfer speeds of 800MHz, 1066MHz, or 1333MHz. Memory speed is dependent on the type and quantity of memory modules installed. There are 18 DIMM slots active in a two processor configuration, Using RDIMM modules the HPE BL490c Gen6 will support a maximum of 192MB with two DIMMs per channel in 12 memory slots and operate at 800MHz.
The ProLiant BL490c Gen6 will support up to two hot plug SATA SSDs or six hot plug SFF serial-attached SAS or SATA drives. A max of two Fibre Channel HBAs per server blade are standard and provide redundant failsafe support. An integrated SATA Controller is standard for connecting to non-hot-plug SATA SSDs only. For additional RAID functionality, and connecting to external storage, requires the use of an optional Smart Array mezzanine card and optional Smart Array Controller. Integration with StorageWorks storage blades is supported but requires the HP PCI Express Mezzanine Pass Thru Card. There’s also an internal SD card slot for hypervisor support.
Two I/O expansion slots are located on the server blade to connect to additional DAS and NAS storage, NICs, and I/O accelerators. Integrated graphics support is included for resolutions of up to 1600 x 1280.
Like other Gen6 HPE ProLiant servers, the ProLiant BL490 Gen6 server features Integrated Lights Out (iLO 2.0) to help provision, deploy, and manage the server. Centralized management is provided the HPE BladeSystem onboard Administrator at the chassis level.
