Description
The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen6 server is a 1U rack optimized system designed to deliver scalable performance for large databases and SMBs. Energy efficiency has been improved with high-efficient/right-sized power supplies, 32 thermal sensors throughout the server, and lower power processors. Redundant power supplies and fans, along with mirrored memory and embedded RAID capabilities, reduce server downtime and increase system fault tolerance.
Performance
Powered by Intel’s 5520 chipset, this system can support a maximum of two Intel Xeon 5500 or 5600 series processors. Six, quad, and dual-core processor models are available depending on your processing power needs. Most processor models can support Intel’s Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost technologies. The former enables a single processor to act like two separate processors to the operating system and applications, and the latter accelerates processor performance to allow cores to run faster than the rated operating frequency.
Memory
Each processor socket contains three memory channels that support three DIMMs each. In a dual-processor configuration, this system can support up to 18 DIMM slots and a maximum memory capacity of 192GB. To achieve this capacity, six DIMM slots need to remain empty to fit twelve 16GB DDR3 registered (RDIMM) memory modules. Using unbuffered (UDIMM) memory modules will provide a maximum memory capacity of 48GB with twelve 4GB modules.
Storage
The HPE DL360 Gen6 can support a maximum of eight small form factor (SFF) drive bays with two processors installed. A four drive bay configuration has room for an optional optical drive, whereas the eight bay configurations can only support an external optical drive. With 600GB SAS drives in all eight bays, a maximum storage capacity of 4.8TB is provided. HPE’s Smart Array P410i storage controller provides increased bandwidth and quicker access to data than its predecessor.
Expansion
One low profile slot, and one full-length/full-height slot are supported on this server for a total of two PCIe expansion slots. The full-length/full-height slot can support PCI-X technology with the addition of a PCI-X riser. Four USB 2.0 ports are provided, with two in the back of the chassis, one internal, and one on the front of the system.
Management
HPE’s Integrated Lights-Out 2 (iLO2) operates without any additional software and allows administrators to remotely manage basic server tasks reducing the need for onsite support. The iLO2 browser interface is easy to navigate with similar tasks grouped together and organized under tabs across the top of the screen. Operational costs are reduced by up to 40% with HPE’s Insight Dynamics, an advanced product option that automates common data center tasks.
Summary
The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen6 server provides flexible I/O alternatives, an impressive memory footprint, and enhanced remote management features. Server-level power management is provided with HPE’s Power Regulator to improve the system’s energy efficiency. Smart Array storage controllers deliver faster access to data, and Intel’s 5520 chipset supports QuickPath technology to further speed up data movement. A 192GB max memory footprint, 4.8TB of internal storage, and advanced thermal management capabilities make this rack server the perfect solution for both enterprise and SMB applications.
