Description
Featuring a highly efficient 1U design with powerful two-socket performance, the HPE DL360 Gen9 server can easily support virtualization, data base, and high-performance computing. The Gen9 family of servers support Xeon E5 v4 and v3 processors. HPE DDR4 smart memory also provides a 14% increase in performance over previous generations. Energy consumption is significantly reduced with all these new technologies while reliability of the system is enhanced.
Performance
Intel’s C610 chipset supports two Xeon E5-2600 v4 or E5-2600 v3 processors, DDR4 memory and HPE’s NVMe PCIe SSDs up to 1.6 TB. Management of the system is further enhanced with HPE’s OneView 2.0 management reducing system complexity with automation simplicity.
Memory
In a two processor configuration up to 24 DDR4 SmartMemory DIMM slots are supported for a maximum of 1.5TB of memory. HPE’s SmartMemory offers a 14% increase in throughput and better energy efficiency. Both RDIMMs and LRDIMMs are supported. Using E5-2600 v4 processors, DDR4 memory will run at up to 2400GHz. Using E5-2600 v3 processors expect memory speeds up to 2133GHz. However, it should be noted that memory speeds are also dependent on the processor and will default to the slowest performing component.
Storage
Three basic storage configurations give administrators options when choosing a system, although the addition of NVMe via Express Bay will limit the maximum storage capacity. SFF and LFF SAS, SATA SSDs or HDDs are supported on this system. Several different storage controllers are available depending on your storage and performance needs including the Smart Array P440. Maximum internal storage capacity is achieved with ten 3.84 TB hot-plug SATA SSDs for a whopping 38.4 TB of storage-all configuration support hot-swap hard drives.
Expansion
With the primary riser and a single processor only two expansion slots are available. A second processor and a secondary riser, activate an additional PCIe slot for a total of three. All PCIe slots on this system feature 3.0 technology and support additional NICs and HBAs. Additional graphics cards are not supported and the system features a built-in Matrox G200 video card.
Management
Embedded management of the system is handled by HPE’s integrated LightsOut (iLO) Management is standard and offers administrators service alerting, reporting, and remote management. Also included as a standard feature is Intelligent Provisioning to simplify server deployment and provides flexibility on how to deploy servers. System configuration is addressed with an easy to use wizard to help administrators simplify and accelerate server deployment and is available on all Gen9 platforms and supports all operating systems. HPE Insight Online offers a personalized dashboard for health monitoring and support of converged infrastructures.
Summary
The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9 server is a great value offering a scalable design with several storage options, and extensive management features in a very compact 1U package. The new technologies available in the Gen9 family increase the performance of the system dramatically while reducing energy consumption and down time. This is a highly adaptable system that would make an excellent addition to space constrained server rooms or data centers where space is a premium.
