The HPE ProLiant DL360e Gen8 server is a 1U, dual-processor platform ideal for both SMB and enterprise applications. Built around Intel’s C600 chipset, this server can support up to two of Intel’s Xeon E5-2400 or Xeon E5-2400 v2 processors. This system can be configured with either small form factor or large form factor drives allowing administrators to build the ideal storage environment for the anticipated workload. In dual-processor configurations, up to 12 DIMMs of DDR3 memory provide a maximum memory capacity of 32GB to easily handle memory-intensive applications. HPE’s iLO4 remote management software includes advanced power management capabilities to keep operational costs to a minimum.
Powered by Intel’s C600 chipset, this server supports up to two Xeon E5-2400 or E5-2400 v2 processors. Intel introduced a new manufacturing process with their v2 processors to create a more powerful, yet cooler running processor. In fact, making the change from 32-nanometer to 22-nanometer processor technology provides noticeable performance increases plus faster clock speeds, more cores, and more L3 cache compared to v1 processors.
Each processor in this dual-socket platform contains three memory channels that support up to two DIMM slots of DDR3 memory. Single processor configurations can support up to six DIMMs to provide up to 16GB of memory, whereas dual-processor configurations will support twice the amount of DIMM slots to provide a 32GB max memory footprint. This server supports unbuffered (UDIMM), registered (RDIMM), and load-reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules, but mixing different memory types is not supported. HPE SmartMemory is specifically designed to increase performance in ProLiant Gen8 servers and unlocks certain advanced features to reduce power usage.
This system supports both large form factor (LFF) and small form factor (SFF) drive configurations. SFF configurations support up to eight drives to provide up to 9.6TB of storage when using 1.2TB SAS drives. LFF configurations support up to four drives and provide almost two times the amount of storage at up to 16TB. SFF versions are not upgradeable to support large form factor drives, or vice versa. Both configurations leave room to fit an optical drive, if desired. Administrators can easily determine hard drive status with HPE’s intuitive SmartDrive carrier’s enhanced diagnostics.
The HPE DL360e Gen8 server supports one low profile PCIe 2.0 slot and one full-length/full-height PCIe 3.0 slot for additional communications and storage. Up to seven USB ports can be found throughout the server- two located at the front of the chassis, four in the back, and one internal port.
Administrators can remotely configure, update, and monitor this server remotely with HPE’s Integrated Lights-Out (iLO4) software. iLO4 automatically adjusts server fans to keep the system properly cooled as well as monitor other components throughout the system such as memory, power supplies, and processors. Basic setup of iLO4 is simple and the interface has a customer-friendly design making server management stress-free for novice-level system admins.
The HPE ProLiant DL360e Gen8 server’s 1U chassis is ideal for businesses with limited space that need the power of a two-processor system. Admins can choose to configure this server with either Intel’s Xeon E5-2400 or Xeon E5-2400 v2 processors. V2 processors will enhance overall system performance and provide more cores than v1 processors. Depending on a business’s storage needs, this system can be configured with either large or small form factor hard drives. Remote management capabilities reduce the need for onsite support and provide a user-friendly interface for stress-free system management.
