Description
The HPE ProLiant ML350e Gen8 tower server delivers high performance with an impressive amount of storage and memory capabilities. Part of HPE’s Project Voyager, the system’s enhanced configuration flexibility and user-inspired design make upgrades and serviceability hassle-free. New Smart Array Controllers are designed to enhance server uptime through fault tolerance features that allow the server to continue to run and process data, even during hard drive replacement.
Performance
A maximum of two processors from Intel’s Xeon E5-2400 family are supported on the ML350e Gen8 tower server and users can choose between four, six, or eight cores, depending on the desired processing power. Power consumption has been reduced compared to the previous generation with the addition of high efficiency redundant power supplies. When configured with HPE’s 94% efficient Common Slot Platinum Power Supply, the system will gain a 5% improvement in system power efficiency. The bank of fans cooling the system also consume less power than previous generations further reducing operational costs.
Memory
When configured with two processors, the HPE ML350e Gen8 tower server can support 12 DDR3 memory modules, or half that amount in a single-processor configuration. Both unbuffered (UDIMM) and registered (RDIMM) are supported in the ML350e Gen8. Load reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules are not supported. Using HPE RDIMM SmartMemory modules provides up to 192GB of memory. Unlike third-party memory modules, SmartMemory modules are fully vetted by HPE to deliver enhanced performance.
Storage
With room for either 18 large form factor (LFF) or 25 small form factor (SFF) storage devices the HPE ML350e tower server can support an impressive 54TB of internal storage. HPE’s SmartDrive carriers have LED lights to indicate drive status and visually show users which drives can be safely removed to prevent data loss from pulling drives prematurely. Businesses that need to comply with data retention and retrieval requirements can opt to add HPE’s Data Archive and Migration Software for additional data protection.
Expansion
This system has four PCIe gen3 and two PCIe gen2 expansion slots. A total of ten USB ports can be found on this system, with two internal ports and the remaining eight split evenly between the front and the back of the chassis. PCIe slots can be used for additional communications and to support external storage.
Management
HPE’s iLO 4.0 Management Engine automates common tasks and is embedded inside every ProLiant Gen8 server to support the server’s complete lifecycle. HPE’s Intelligent Provisioning allows administrators to deploy this system three times faster than previous generations of ProLiant servers and simplifies the process by eliminating the need for any physical media. With iLO Agentless Management, hardware monitoring is active as soon as the power cord and Ethernet cable are connected. For businesses running cloud applications, HPE offers an optional Insight Cluster Management Utility to streamline lifecycle management and support hyperscale clusters of Linux ProLiant systems. Server management is further simplified with all management tools and assets displayed on a single screen for easy access.
Summary
The HPE ProLiant ML350e Gen8 tower server is a great solution for both enterprise and SMB workloads with its flexible configuration capabilities. HPE’s iLO Management Engine, SmartDrive carriers, and tool-less access to components make this server easy to deploy, manage, and upgrade while Intel’s Xeon E5-2400 processors deliver high-performance computing power to handle a variety of workloads.
